Cellulite is the accumulation of adipose tissue in the hypodermis or subcutaneous fat layer. It is believed to be associated with hormonal activity in the female body and may develop irrespective of the total body weight. Accumulation of fat storage in the adipose cells and fluid build up within the hypodermis produce expansion of the hypodermal fat chambers resulting in a dimpling, bumpy appearance of the skin commonly referred to as orange peel skin.
